Embracing Harsh Winter in Illinois!

Winter in Illinois has been nothing like I imagined! Coming from a warmer place, I thought I was prepared with my new coat and boots, but the reality hit me hard, literally, with freezing winds and snowstorms. Even the Fahrenheit goes minus!

The first time I stepped out in subzero temperatures, the cold felt like tiny needles on my face. I quickly learned that layering is key! Don’t forget gloves, hats, and scarves, every bit of skin needs protection!

....and sledding! We went to a nearby hill covered in fresh snow. It looked so simple, just sit on a sled and slide down. But the first time, I didn’t sit properly and ended up toppling over halfway down.

Once I got the hang of it, sledding was pure joy. The thrill of speeding down the hill, the cold wind on my face, and the laughter from everyone around made it unforgettable. Climbing back up the hill was exhausting, though. it’s like a workout in the snow!

Despite the struggles, there’s beauty in winter too. Snow-covered trees, frozen lakes, and the quiet after a snowfall feel magical. I even tried building a snowman with my little one, it was small, but it made me smile.

Winter here has taught me resilience. It’s tough, but with preparation and the right mindset, it’s manageable. Now I appreciate the warmth of a hot drink and cozy blankets even more.

To anyone facing their first winter here, hang in there! it gets better!
